There's an easier step.
1. Go to hair salon.
2. Pay lady to dye your hair.
That's what I do, and it's why I have the prettiest rainbow colored pubes in all the land.
I love it! Much better then all the girls in high school that ended up with varying shades of bright magenta hair.

Am jealous. I have tried to dye my hair red countless times (okay, twice) and everytime (OK, twice) it came out orange (no, really really orange). I look like Ronald McDonald.

Really nice for your first time! I'm impressed you went with the brush applicator. If you want to go right out of the box, I like the "Perfect 10" line. Only 10 minutes, and a super-easy applicator. Be prepared to fade--that's the only downside about going red!

One time I did red with a manic panic dye in a rental which involved my husband rinsing my hair out with a HOSE in an apartment parking lot in 50 degree whether. Brilliant!

I didn't realize you were coloring it yourself! That's way braver than paying someone to do it for you. Red is such a tricky color. You did a good job picking out the right shade. I tried to go red(ish) recently and it was kind of a hot mess.

So pretty! I went auburn my freshman year of college and never looked back. People think it is my natural color. I always say "it should've been." Although I now go between that and light golden brown which comes out auburny on me. Glad you took the plunge.

Gorgeous! I keep trying to dye my hair brown and it keeps turning reddish. Yet when I dye my hair red, the color lasts about a week.

Okay, I know this is MONTHS after this post, but after working up some courage I finally took the plunge and bought a box of dark brown FF dye. Being a hair virgin myself I had no idea what I was getting into. The color turned out a lot nicer than I expected BUT how did you not create a HUGE mess in the process?? I have hair your length and I got dye all over my clothes/neck/floor...everywhere! Now maybe I'm an uber-slob, but cleaning up was seriously a pain in the ass, almost making it not worth it. Any tips on how to keep things neater when applying dye to really long hair? And how has the color turned out now 4 months after the application? Are you doing touch-ups or letting it grow? Lots of questions, so no worries getting back to me in a rush :) Just trying to get some first-hand experience tips :)
